Accessibility
Eric & Wally is meant to be read together, by grown-ups and children of every kind. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA across the whole site.
What you can do
- Use the whole site with a keyboard, with a visible focus on every control.
- Use a screen reader: every picture that matters has a description, and the story words are real text, not part of the pictures.
- Change how stories look in Reading settings: typeface (including OpenDyslexic, the face the books are set in), text size, line and letter spacing, and page colour.
- Stop the movement. If your device is set to reduce motion, or you choose it in Reading settings, the site shows still pictures.
- Zoom to 200% without losing anything.
How we check
Every page is tested with automated accessibility checks (axe and Lighthouse) at phone and desktop sizes before changes go live, and by hand with a keyboard. The most recent checks found no failures.
What is not right yet
- The pictures in the books do not yet have their own descriptions for screen readers. The words are read out; what each picture shows is not, yet.
- On the smallest phones, the words in the menu are small.
Tell us
If anything gets in your way, we want to know and we will fix it.
